About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St Anne in Izvalta stands in the village of Izvalta, in Krāslava Municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden church here was built in 1625 at the expense of the landowner Alfonsas Lackas, and was rebuilt in the 18th century. The present masonry church was built in 1896 and consecrated in 1897. A fire in 1941 severely damaged the church and destroyed a valuable painting of the Mother of God, held to be miraculous; the church was later rebuilt, with its towers and altars restored.
The cross-plan, three-aisled church is built of red and concrete brick, and has two towers. The high altar holds a painting of St Anne with the Virgin Mary; the church is enclosed by a masonry wall with brick pillars.
