About the Church
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nautrēni (Rogovka) stands at the centre of the Rogovka settlement, in the Nautrēni civil parish, Rēzekne municipality, and is the most prominent building in the area. The church is protected as a cultural monument of national significance.
The first wooden church was built by Jesuits in 1791 in the Žogoti cemetery; in 1799 it was moved to Rogovka, more central within the parish. The present red-brick church, in the Romanesque style, was built in 1902–1914 and consecrated on 8 June 1914 by the Archbishop of Mogilev, Wincenty Kluczyński. It is a three-aisled, twin-towered building, almost exactly replicating, both outside and inside, the Church of Mary in Daugavpils.
The church houses an organ with 1542 pipes, built in 1939 by the Riga master Herbert Kolbe, which has the status of a state-protected monument; its acquisition was partly financed by the then President of Latvia, Kārlis Ulmanis, who donated 2500 lats.
