About the Church
The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Nīcgale is a church of the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona, standing in the village of Buivīši, in the Nīcgale civil parish, Augšdaugava municipality, about a kilometre and a half west of the settlement of Nīcgale.
The first wooden Catholic church here was built in 1803 and stood for about six decades, until in 1863 the landowner Heinrich Plāteris-Zībergs built a new masonry church in its place. On 15 July 1924 Archbishop Antonijs Springovičius consecrated it in honour of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a single-nave, pseudo-Gothic, plastered-brick church with one tower and a sheet-metal roof.
