About the Church
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Pieniņi is a Catholic church of the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona in Latgale; it is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and placed under the patronage of St Anne. The building was built in 1936–1939, and solemnly consecrated on 5–6 September 1948.
It is a three-aisled church of Gothic form, built of cement brick, with a single tall square tower adorned with bells and turrets crowned with crosses. Inside there are three oak altars in Gothic style; on the high altar stands a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The walls are decorated with works painted by the artists Pāvils Glaudāns and Mariana Peilāne, and a stone water vessel survives from the old chapel.
