About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Riebiņi stands in the centre of the settlement of Riebiņi, in the Preiļi region, in Latgale, and belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden Catholic church here was built in 1771 with funds from the landowner Veisenhof. Construction of the present masonry church, modelled on the church of Nīdermuiža, began in 1894 through the efforts of Fr Dominykas Andrekus; the work was completed by Fr Anton Racevski, and in 1909 the church was consecrated in honour of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
It is a church with features of the Gothic Revival, built of dressed fieldstone and red brick, which accentuate the corners, gables and towers. Inside are three altars, among them a two-tier high altar with a large cross; the church also preserves an 18th-century painting, "The Last Supper", declared a state cultural monument. In 2011 an organ was installed, brought from Ikšķile and originally from Essen in Germany.
