About the Church
Pirita Convent is a convent of the Order of the Most Holy Saviour and St Bridget in the Pirita district of Tallinn. The original convent was founded in 1407, its church was consecrated in 1436, and in 1577, during the Livonian War, the convent was destroyed; the impressive ruins of the Gothic church survive to this day.
Beside the ruins, in 2000–2001, a new convent complex was built, designed by the Pärnu architects Ra Luhse and Tanel Tuhal (of the firm "Luhse & Tuhal"). The modern building, faced in limestone, comprises a chapel, a bell tower, a guest house with 42 places and a monastic wing with an inner courtyard; the cornerstone was laid in autumn 2000, and the convent was consecrated on 15 September 2001.
The convent is home to Bridgettine sisters, and public Mass is celebrated in the chapel: on weekdays at 7:30, on Sundays at 10:00.
