About the Church
The Church of St Anne in Kruopiai stands in the town of Kruopiai, by the road connecting Šiauliai, Gruzdžiai and Naujoji Akmenė. This church has seen more than one change of era.
The first chapel here was built around 1780, and in 1786 a wooden church was raised beside it. The parish was established in 1803. The masonry church was built in 1889 – its construction cost 17,829 roubles. Unfortunately, in 1944 the church burned down along with many of the town's buildings. Reconstruction was permitted in 1957, and the work was finished in 1965.
The present church has a rectangular plan, with two towers and plastered masonry walls. In the churchyard stands a three-tier brick wayside shrine with figures of saints, and near the cemetery stands a separate masonry chapel.
