About the Church
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kivyliai stands in the village of Kivyliai, about ten kilometres north-west of Naujoji Akmenė. It is a young house of prayer, raised through the care of the community.
The church was newly built in 2000 to a design by the architect Rimantas Zimkus. Construction was led by priest Gediminas Norvilas, and funds were donated by parishioners, the Akmenė municipality, and German benefactors, who also gave the bells.
The church is built of white silicate brick and grey stone. Its plan is rectangular, with a projecting tower, a small turret and a three-sided apse. The walls of the single-nave interior are plastered white, the floor is laid with tiles, and the ceiling is adorned with wooden truss elements. The altar consists of a simple table of black granite. On the wall hangs a painting by the artist Rūta Kučinskaitė, "The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven", and next to it are professionally painted Stations of the Cross.
