About the Church
This text describes the Ropkojai Church of St John the Baptist, built in 1869. The church is wooden and stands in Ropkojai, in the Diocese of Telšiai, the Šilutė Deanery, Pagėgiai municipality. The architecture is in Lithuanian vernacular forms; the church has a single tower and three altars. The church has been repaired several times, the last repair being carried out in 1973. The church of Ropkojai was important for Lithuania during the Soviet period, when it became a point for smuggling banned Lithuanian-language press.
