About the Church
The Chapel of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Katyčiai is in Katyčiai, in the Šilutė district – an old small town of the Klaipėda region on both banks of the Šyša river, by the Žemaičių Naumiestis–Rukai road. Katyčiai is regarded as one of the oldest settlements in this region.
The Catholic community gathers in the Chapel of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Šilutės Street. It is served by the priest of Žemaičių Naumiestis, and Holy Mass is celebrated on Sundays. The chapel belongs to the Šilutė Deanery of the Diocese of Telšiai.
The dominant feature of the town remains the old, 18th-century brick Evangelical Lutheran church, so in the sacred landscape of Katyčiai the Catholic and Lutheran traditions live side by side.
