About the Church
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary at Balbieriškis stands in the northern part of the small town of Balbieriškis, about 13 km south of Prienai. Its history reaches deep into the past, while its most recent pages were written quite recently.
The first church here is recorded as early as before 1520. The second church, built in 1612, was for a time held by the Reformed, and the Catholics regained it on 10 February 1632. A wooden church was built in 1884–1888 to a design by the engineer Bronislovas Žochovskis, but it burned down on the night of 7–8 August 2013.
The new masonry church was consecrated on 3 March 2018; it was built to a design by the architect Vilius Urbonas, of three-layer brick masonry, with a single tower. The benefactor Arvydas Paukštys, founder of "Teltonika", who donated a million euros, made a particularly notable contribution to its construction.
