About the Church
The church of the Holy Guardian Angels at Paluobiai is a wooden church in the vernacular architectural style, standing in Paluobiai village, about 7 km north-east of Griškabūdis. A chapel was established here as early as 1795, and the temporary wooden church built in 1856 served for a time as the centre of the parish of Žemoji Panemunė, but the building soon collapsed.
The present wooden church was built in 1915–1916 through the efforts of priest Vincas Vizgirda. In 1970–1989 the priest Pranas Račiūnas, who had spent 16 years imprisoned, worked here; he renovated the church and set up an ethnographic museum in the barn.
The church has a rectangular plan, with one tower and side annexes; a two-storey wooden bell tower stands in the churchyard.
