About the Church
The Church of the Holy Name of Mary in Sasnava stands in the small town of Sasnava, on the right bank of the Sasna, a tributary of the Šešupė, in Marijampolė district municipality.
In 1817 the Marian Fathers built a hexagonal wooden chapel in the cemetery. The parish was established in 1904, and in 1905 the priest Stanislovas Čėsna built the presbytery. In 1910 the parishioners decided to build a masonry church; the first project was halted by the First World War. On 4 June 1928 Bishop Mečislovas Reinys blessed the cornerstone, and the church was completed in 1938, though the tower was raised lower than planned.
The brick-masonry church is Gothic Revival in style, on a Latin-cross plan, with one tower and a five-sided apse. The three-aisled interior is enlivened by a pronounced transept. The church commemorates the priests Albinas Deltuva (1917–1999) and Stanislovas Čėsna (1864–1954).

1817 m. pastatyta senoji medinė Sasnavos (dab. Marijampolės sav.) Švč. Mergelės Marijos Vardo bažnyčia. 1952 m. nugriauta. 2011 m. bažnyčia, kaip vertingas sakralinės architektūros objektas, atkurta ir pastatyta Rumšiškėse, Lietuvos liaudies buities muziejuje.
Baigiama statyti neogotikinė Sasnavos (dab. Marijampolės sav.) Švč. Mergelės Marijos Vardo bažnyčia (statybų pabaiga - 1938 m.; architektas - Edmundas Frykas).
