About the Church
The Roman Catholic church of St Peter in Grende stands in the village of Grende, in the historic region of Selonia, near Ilūkste. It belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.
The parish was founded in 1907 by the newly ordained priest Antons Bamblovskis. The church was almost finished in 1910, but the work was prolonged for lack of funds; the shrine was completed and consecrated in honour of St Peter in 1913.
It is a rectangular-plan stone masonry church, built of fieldstone, about 30 metres long, without towers. The building displays Neo-Baroque features.
