About the Church

The Church of Sts Peter and Paul at Laucesa is a Roman Catholic church in Laucesa eldership, in Augšdaugava Municipality, on the southern side of the Daugava. It belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.

A Catholic mission was already active at Laucesa in the 17th century, where Jesuits worked for a long time. Earlier wooden churches were destroyed, and the present wooden church was built in 1921–1923; in 1981 a wooden bell tower was raised beside it.

The church is distinguished by an unusual facade composition with three low turrets. Beside it stands the Catholic cemetery of Laucesa, with many old gravestones. The church remains a house of prayer for the local community.
