About the Church
The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross at Jaunborne stands in the village of Jaunborne, in Saliena eldership, Augšdaugava Municipality. The church belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava and is a state-protected architectural monument.
The masonry church was built in 1859 in honour of the Holy Cross by the local manor owner Julijus Savickis; at first it was a filial church of Elerne. At the beginning of the 20th century the church was rebuilt and renovated.
The church was built in a cross-plan form with a single tower. Inside it has three altars, and part of its artistic furnishings, including the organ case, are believed to have come from the church of Elerne. The church remains a house of prayer for the local community.
