About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Varnaviču is situated in the village of Varnaviču, in the Kaplava civil parish, Krāslava municipality, on the left bank of the Dauguva. It belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.
The first wooden church at Varnaviču, a filial church of the church at Elernė, was built in 1822 by the Dauguva, opposite Indrica. In 1929 canon J. Borodzičius built the present masonry church a few kilometres from the old shrine.
Inside, the church has a three-aisled space; it preserves quite a few items moved from the old wooden church. Services, often held in Polish, take place several times a month and on major feast days.
