About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St George in Lamiņi is the shrine of one of the oldest Catholic parishes in Courland; it stands in the village of Lamiņi, in the Pūre parish of the Tukums area.
The Catholic community here began to form in the mid-18th century. An earlier wooden church stood at the nearby Sēme manor, and in 1769 Count Filipas Livenas built a new church in Lamiņi; in 1807 the parish became independent. For a long time the Catholics of Tukums also belonged to it.
The present masonry church was built in 1865. It is a modest masonry building with a single tower of medium height, square in plan, at the front. The shrine still serves the small local Catholic community today.
