About the Church
The Church of St Michael the Archangel at Subate stands on the market square of the small town of Subate, in Augšdaugava Municipality. It belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.
A Catholic church has stood on this site since the 17th century, and the present stone-masonry church was built in 1831 at the expense of Count Mykolas Plateris-Zyberkas and consecrated in honour of St Michael the Archangel.
It is a large fieldstone-masonry church, built in basilica-plan forms. Subate is a multi-confessional small town, in which the Catholic church has for centuries been an important part of the local community; services are held there daily.
