About the Church
The Andrioniškis Church of Sts Peter and Paul, Apostles is in Anykščiai district, in the small town of Andrioniškis. It is a masonry church, built in 1935 on the initiative and at the expense of the engineer Pranas Markūnas. The church measures 29 × 13.5 m. The church holds a painting of "St Bartholomew" and three wooden sculptures.
The first wooden church in Andrioniškis was built in 1726, and a new one in 1789–1790. The Andrioniškis parish was established in 1936. After the Second World War the church was renovated and repainted.
In the early 21st century, stained-glass windows were fitted in 8 of the church's windows. In 2019 a memorial to the Lithuanian freedom fighters was set up in the churchyard.
Architecture: the walls are of dressed stone on the outside and rendered fired brick on the inside. The church is single-naved, with a three-sided apse and a small bell-tower turret rising to 30 m. The churchyard wall is of stone masonry, and burials with monuments from a former 19th-century cemetery here survive.
The church's organ was moved from the old church to the new one in 1936–1940.
