About the Church
The Church of St Anne at Bērzgale stands in the settlement of Bērzgale, in the Rēzekne district, in the historic region of Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
An earlier wooden church stood on the same site before the present one, but its builder and the year of construction are unknown. Construction of the masonry church began in 1770 at the expense of Baroness Manteifel, work was completed around 1787, and in 1792 the church was consecrated in honour of St Anne.
It is a cruciform, two-towered stone masonry church with Renaissance and Baroque features, about 24 metres long. Inside are three altars with Baroque wood carving, an organ made in Vilnius in 1891, and on the high altar paintings of St Anne and St Peter. The church is included in the list of state-protected cultural monuments.
