About the Church
The Church of St Andrew at Eversmuiža (Cibla) stands in the settlement of Cibla, in the Ludza district, in the Latgale region. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
A wooden chapel already stood on this site in 1698 – it was built by the Dominicans of Pasiene. The present church was built in 1771 at the expense of Mikalojus Karnickis and consecrated in honour of St Andrew; in 1876 it was lengthened towards the bell tower.
It is a wooden church of the Baroque period, about 30 metres long, with several aisles and two towers with pyramidal roofs. A bell tower was built in the churchyard in 1883, and the grounds are enclosed by a stone wall built in 1896; the church retains 18th-century paintings and an organ from 1891. The church is protected as a cultural monument.
