About the Church
The Greek Catholic community of Our Lady of Refuge (Patvēruma Dievmātes) in Ludza is a small Byzantine (Eastern) rite Catholic parish in the town of Ludza, Latgale. Unlike the Latin-rite parishes, it follows the Byzantine liturgy, while keeping unity with Rome and the Holy See.
There are few Greek Catholics in Latvia – they make up only a small share of believers. The Ludza community gathers the Catholics of this Eastern-rite tradition; its patroness is the Mother of God, venerated as the refuge and intercessor of the faithful. The community is active in the Latgale region, within the territory of the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
