About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St Stanislaus in Istalsna stands in the village of Istalsna, in Ludza Municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden chapel on this site was built around 1800, furnished at his own expense by the landowner Juozapas Sokolovskis. The present masonry church was built in 1935–1938 to a design by the architect Pāvels Pavlovs, around the old chapel; the church was consecrated in 1938.
The single-nave, two-tower church is built of grey concrete-brick masonry, with a sheet-metal roof; it is 15 metres long and 10 metres wide. Three altars survive inside, one of which is listed among the state-protected art monuments, along with a sculpture of the Crucified Christ and a painting of the Holy Trinity.
