About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of Divine Mercy in Kauguri is a modern church in the densely populated Kauguri microdistrict, in the western part of Jūrmala, near Raiņa Street. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Riga.
Construction of the new church began in 2010, and it was solemnly blessed on Christmas Eve 2011. The building was supported by the German Catholic foundations "Bonifatiuswerk" and "Kirche in Not", as well as local donors – typical of many Catholic churches built in this country after Latvia regained independence.
The church is dedicated to the Divine Mercy. The Hour of Divine Mercy is prayed there every day, and the church brings together a large community of the faithful from the surrounding apartment-block district for communal prayer and the celebration of the sacraments.
