About the Church
The Chapel of St Joseph the Worker in Rusnė stands in Rusnė, in the Šilutė district – a fishing town situated on an island of the Nemunas delta. The dedication is no accident: the chapel is dedicated to St Joseph the Worker because the people of Rusnė earn their bread, for themselves and their families, by the work of fishing.
Before the chapel was set up, Catholics had to pray in Šilutė, almost ten kilometres away. After independence was restored, the community was given temporary premises, and later a former kindergarten building, which was consecrated as a chapel on 30 March 2008, at Easter, by the Bishop of Telšiai Jonas Boruta SJ.
The church belongs to the Parish of the Holy Cross in Šilutė and to the Šilutė Deanery of the Diocese of Telšiai.
