About the Church
The Church of St Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist stands in the small town of Krosna, about 8 kilometres west of Simnas, Lazdijai district, on the Alytus–Kalvarija road.
The first, oak chapel was built here around 1655, and the parish was established in 1760. The present masonry church was built in 1840–1842 and consecrated in 1843 by Bishop Povilas Strašinskis. In 1913 the church was enlarged, and towers were added to the façade. In 1915 Russian troops removed the bells, including the oldest one, cast as far back as 1655.
The plastered masonry church has features of the Neo-Renaissance: the main façade is divided by four pilasters, and a low triangular pediment rises above the portico. A stone churchyard wall runs around it.

Mūrinė bažnyčia su portiku ir dviem bokštais užfiksuota iš pagrindinio fasado pusės. Portikas sudarytas iš piliastrų ir žemo frontono. Bokštai – keturkampio plano, su piliastrais ir arkos formos nišomis, dengti piramidės formos skardiniais stogais su geležiniais kryžiais viršūnėse.
