Vilkaviškio Švč. Mergelės Marijos Apsilankymo katedra

The Vilkaviškis Cathedral of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a two-towered church in the Historicist style, built in 1870–1881 through the efforts of parish priest Antanas Lesniauskas and curate Jonas Siaurusaitis. In 1906 the church was taken over by a branch of the "Žiburys" society, and in 1926 it became the cathedral of the Diocese of Vilkaviškis. The cathedral was damaged and burned down in 1944, and in 1991 construction of the new cathedral began on the old foundations. The new cathedral was consecrated in 1998. In the churchyard stands the sculpture "The Martyrs of Budavonė", recounting the tragic deaths of three priests in 1941.
